Continentseven: Kevin Pritchard about the Master of Caribbean
Kevin Pritchard and 6 other big names – Antoine Albeau, Peter Volwater, Josh Angulo, Cyril Moussilmani, Julien Quentel and Ross Williams – of the professional Slalom Racing scene joined the Master of Caribbean event in the beginning of March 2010. The plan was to have a 107 nautical miles long crossing from Guadeloupe to Martinique. But the wind did not blow from the right direction and the big race could not be done! Read the interview with Kevin Pritchard about the event below!

C7: We read you had gear problems! What happened?
Kev: Yeah, my gear never showed up!! I got there and it never got there so I had to use my friends gear from down there. Luckily I sold it to him two years ago and it had all my stickers on it and everything so rigged it up and bang on it. It was great.
C7: How was the race going? We were supposed to race from Guadeloupe to Martinique. 107 nautical miles. The plan was to make a long distance crossing! Why did it not happen, and what was the alternative program?
Kev: The wind was from a bad direction for this. So we did a 25 mile race. It took around 1:45 minutes.
C7: Your plan was to follow Antoine and to overtake him on the last meters of the race! How was this tactic in the end?
Kev: Ha ha.. well this was so short that I just went for my own tactics. I only had one sail to use and it was an 8.2 m. Anotione was on his 9.5 and we came into a big hole and Antoine just made it through. He was lucky though that I did not kick his but.
C7: After this first gathering of the top slalom racers (except Björn and Finian), do you feel confident about your speed?
Kev: Well, there were a lot of top guys not there, but I could only test out my gear from 3 years ago. So it did nothing to help me with figuring out my speed for the year. I was pretty bummed with American Airlines not getting my bags on time but what can you do?
C7: What was the highlight of the event out of your view?
Kev: The Islands are beautiful down there and the people are great! We had a great time and the event organizer worked really hard to to the best job he could. There was pretty much wind every day so it would have been great to have the gear to test out.
C7: Now there are 2 months left till the first PWA Slalom in South Korea tourstop. How will your preparation look like?
Kev: Training hard and having fun.
