Maui, coming back once more!
Picking up my Maui surf and windsurf gear where I left them 10.5 month ago.
Ahhh – we made it! I do not know how many years in a row me and my family have made it over to our favorite island to spend quite a number of weeks or even month during winter. But each time is an accomplishment. Even if we have everything set here in terms of where to stay, car, surf and windsurf equipment, there are always so many things in life that can make this trip very hard to make reality. The obvious ones are economy, time from work and the children’s schools, but there are more.
Hilding and Svea soooooo happy to be back, as usual, they pick some very good tasting mandarines, while I get my surf stuff at a friends house
This last half year I have worked more than during any previous half year in life. A lot of really fun work doing interesting and demanding teaching as well as research (I’m an associate professor in business administration at Stockholm School of Economics). But I have also have had some quite stressful family-related things to deal with. With only that many hours (24/7) I have been very much at a dangerous limit regarding workhours, sleep and health. I haven’t been that much in the water, even if I have had a handful surf sessions on my local spot Torö, as well as a few days windsurfing on Swedish west coast. But otherwise I have been extremely trapped in the iron cage of work and social responsibilities, increasing my stress to very un-healthy levels.
But all that suddenly seems quite far away. A couple of severe attacks of migraine first couple of days, and then major pain in pretty much all muscles possible due to overdosing on surf and windsurf, I’m now in such good place compared to a few weeks ago. Morning surf, family play, beach-time and big wave wave-sailing, all makes my life slowly coming into balance. So what kind of surf and sailing has it been these first two weeks? Well check in my next note, and you will find out!
