As Small as it Gets – Hookipa fun
Back in Sweden since a week and a half. From taking a morning surf in bordies, it’s now up and get all family dressed for cold winter days, driving to schools and get to work in time. But Maui is still in my mind. And, editing video that my daughter Tora shot an afternoon when I wave sailed Hookipa is like travel back to the magic island.
After some days of fun and good to epic wave saling at Kuau, the swell dropped and I had 4 super fun days in a row at Hookipa. Only one of these days had some size, the rest was flat with occasional 1-footers coming in. But as a Swedish that size is not something ju just skip. It is rather what we hope for when we are home. I had so much fun even though the biggest sets was in the 1 foot range.
When I did the editing I realized that Tora also shot a session last year. Then at Kuau and in decent size. 3-4 foot with occasional bigger ones. that equals mast high in windsurfing measure. That day was everything but epic. It was way to windy making the wave faces really bumpy. It was to much west in the swell and high tide, making the at times perfect right-hander becoming a close out section. But it was still more than sailable an dI remember me having a lot of fun. Some shaky video recording (Tora’s first ever attempt at shooting windsurfing) from that session is also included the clip:
