The new Stylomatic from Tekknosport follows the latest freestyle trend with a short and wide fin design. The idea with this fin concept, is basically to have a fin that slides really well. So when landing in a Willy Skipper, Spock or similar move, you are able to push the fin sideways through the water and get on to a course that would very difficult with conventional longer fins.

These new fin designs are aiming at the keen freestylers that are going for the hardcore freestyle moves. When I first got this new fin design, my Spocks amongst other moves dramatically improved, it is so much easier now to spin the board around! But as with any design there are compromises, and the drawbacks on this fin design, are more spin outs, less upwind ability and it is really just a fin aiming at the sailors at ”Duck Jibing stage” and up..

Our approach at Tekknosport with the Stylomatic have been to have a slightly thicker profile, that almost matches the ”speed characteristics” of the old longer conventional freestyle fins, however they are still easy to ”break out” of the water. So we have been able to get a great freestyle fin design, where the pro freestyler can go all the way with a small size and the ”weekend warrior” can with a bigger size get a more forgiving fin.

Compared to earlier, We are now on 5-7 cm shorter fins.. Mostly I use the 21 cm fin with 6,2 and with smaller than 5,0 I’m on a 19 cm. If you want to have superior upwind performance and a more forgiving feel though, the choose should still be for the conventional designs..
