Tjaa!

Thanks man!

CalleP

Slim and nevertheless bear-strongly? thin masts with thick wall are after-said animal forces. But breaking break pilots does not only love the trendige bar commodity, also Manoeverfreaks seizes gladly to the handy diameters. But each sail does not become better after the mast cure? we plumbed the strengths, in addition, the borders. Photo: Heike Dusswald photo: Stephan Goelnitz 30 8/2003 asparagus Tarzan asparagus Tarzan Skinny masts of Stephan Goelnitz Skinnys nearly never are in the ton?, maintains Joerg Mueller von Gun Sails. the ton?, how does he say, does land broken complaint masts? however hardly the new RDMs (reduced dia. meter mast), masts with reduced diameter. By of them legendarily good break strengtheningnesses was already reported years ago. Hawaii drive nearly all thereby?, one whispered. And also our search with drivers and manufacturers results in, what the laws of the mechanics confirm: A thin however solid weidenrute bears more than a thick however hollow bamboo cane. Outside Haenfling, inside Herkules? Skinnys are at the lower end of about 15 millimeters slimmer than standard masts, round within the fork range a centimeter. The Muckis is in the thicker wall. With approximately 1.5 millimeters of wall thickness must be content standard masts, to Skinnys profit from solid laminates between well two millimeters (Gaastra Ignition RDM) and full three millimeters in the cousin (NO Limitz). makes also more insensitive the masts to impacts?, means Andy Wirtz of Tecno of limit. The masts cannot book the often maintained weight advantage exactly therefore however. Comparable masts with 100 per cent carbon of North or Neil Pryde are still easier. But masts must function not on the balance, but in the sail. And particularly with gusty chopping wind Riggs with Skinny mast in the surf test could convince frequently. it is meanwhile sure that the thin flowing against edge less wind resistance offers and the sails lie therefore with strong wind and throw maneuvers more easily in the hand?, to justify tried surf tester Gunther Baade the collected experiences also theoretically. But any sail cannot be rigged with a Skinny. Changed mast geometry affects the entire Rigg, because Segelmacher normally vary mast bags in millimeter dimensions. So that the sail does not schlabbert around the thin mast like Baggy Pants in 32 8/2003 with more than 2000 different sails on the market (marks x of models x sizes), each mast test can be only one sample. Nevertheless well the tendencies are recognizable also during few test travels. We directly against each other tested selected, identical sail couples with Skinnys and standard masts on identical boards? on sliding achievement, controllableness and maneuver handling. In the laboratory four meter masts was examined after the IMCSVerfahren for the hardness (storage is based on the ends, load in the center with 30 Kilos, the deflection with 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of the length). The slats rotate with the fresh asparagus butter-softly, but the driving feeling becomes spongelike, the sail tosses and works strongly. Tuningnote: sufficiently. From Neil Pryde we select the Raf jet 6,9. With?zehn to 20 per cent of less achievement? we would have to count according to Neil Pryde, but not with our test: The thin mast pushes the pressure point to the rear and brings with it even somewhat more sliding power. But the mast works much too softly, the sail pulls photo: one must play Stephan Goelnitz of the knee throat also with the trim. is somewhat difficult with some sails?, DWC Cupper Claudio cook, passionate Skinny fan complains. does one?Gibt too little tension, does pull the sail in all directions, does draw one too much, has one a flat door without power? does not say Segelmacher Gerrit Maass of Sailloft Hamburg?muss one sails with specially thin mast bag cutters. A somewhat flatter profile in the topp is enough than adjustment. It is important to us that all sails function further with both mast variants? Also he is long Skinny fan: fun begins already with the Aufriggen?, schwaermt Gerrit. Actually flutschen thinner masts in the sail like fresh asparagus with much sauce Hollandaise of the fork. Thus are all standard masts too thick for this summer? We wanted to know and have it selected Riggs with RDM mast and?normalem? Mast against each other driven: First test: We?tunen? the North Instinct 6.2 with a Skinny mast. But nil return? of increase in output no trace. As if we would have throttled with the thinner mast the capacity, slide the sail later on. That much flattens profile becomes somewhat faster for it with strong wind. The mast adapter adapts the smaller diameter to standard forks and reduces additionally the notch effects within the fork range. Schlabberiger as usual falls the sail dress. Thus team driver Claudio cook trims its Wavesegel (Skinny: right down, standard mast: on the top right). All masts were 4.00 meters long and as IMCS 19 indicated. For the high-speed check the differences in the overview: + each sail works with Skinny mast more softly, more softly. Very hard profiles (for example Gaastra or Arrows) can profit from it. Light surfer feel more absorption than particularly pleasant. + the handling improves in each case. The mast bag sits more softly at the mast, the slats flutschen almost contactlessly on the new side. The profile becomes flatter and thus in maneuvers more neutral. Thinner masts lie with maneuvers more pleasantly in the hand. + even if the sail manufacturer Skinnys offers, can use one these heedlessly, above all if one prefers rather soft and absorbed profiles. – best achievement Skinnys bring only with high carbon portion, drive the price upward. – sails with inserted self-absorption (for example North Sails), become extremely soft to spongelike and are then only for absolute?Softies? been suitable. – no full of seeds?raciges?
