Everything so far has relied upon some material along the underside of the fingers to keep the cut away mitten in place over the ends of the fingers. That small bit of material disturbes the most critical part of the hands grip on the boom. This mitten has managed to eliminate the layer of material between the fingers and the boom. If you sail with this on one hand a traditional cut away mitten on the other you would realize how significant this is.

An english pioneer just sent me this video. I like it because it really shows how you use the hand heating system, most of the time it does not need to be in your mouth, it can live resting on your chest waiting for your fingers to ask you to give them another hot breath. http://youtu.be/RGMObxsjU3s
