Speedsurfingblog: 10 Speedsurfing DO NOTS
- Think upwind has higher priority than downwind… OK officially upwind sailor goes first, but on most speeddays good downwindruns don’t come dozens. And its not that great when you finally have that gust and some %^&%& forces you to back of, or unbalances you by a monster stern wave
- Gather full quiver/ stash of equipment, pulling your wallet after every bad session is not recommended. Never underestimate the effect of time with equipment on the water, I never experienced the first time sailng a new sail that it was better than my older one (sometimes for as long as the first months)
- Use ”wellknown” speed trimtips always/anytime (mastfoot in back, high boom position, long harnasslines)
- Use 1 perfect setting on a combo of gear for any condition any time, this is not real, there are always small adjustments to make this last fit for the current conditions
- Sand your windsurfboard for that last .1mm perfection, its a waste of money/time and most likely the board will break down much easier. Since I use starboard (2010) haven’t used a sandpaper and best decision ever (both financial and from time point of view)
- EVER sell all your equipment and start over all new, I mean what are you doing windsurfing of puzzling?
- Buy and use real speedequipment only for real open water, are you kidding? Really a speedboard is ment for flat water
- Think 2011 is faster compared to 2007, only most likely a 2007 will break down easier at the first catapult/ big impact on wave/ gust
- Go on the water on a offshore spot without a decent plan B (when your windsurfkit or your body fails sailing upwind)
- Start sailing with a uncomfy windsurfing set, your (speed)limits won’t progress when it is physical almost impossible to sheet in.
