The kite is now sold. (I bought the kite on ebay.de; the previous owner bought the kite in June 2008 – I found a soggy receipt in the bag. It does not work well on gusty lakes apparently. The Swedish sea breezes are no problem. The 17m monsoonz was first sold in 2008 – the smaller sizes in 2007).

I’m a bit surprised there was not more interest for this kite until I dropped the price to silly cheap. If you want a tube to compete with the big flysurfers then this is it (I own a speed 17 btw). Of course the Ovando is hyped to change all that. We’ll see.

If boards around 36 wide are too big then I recon you would be just as well to make one out of 8-10mm plywood. Rocker by brute force or by gluing 3 x 3mm sheets together. Wouldn’t take long to make and would do the job just fine. But I’m no expert. My kids still haven’t shown any interest in kitesurfing and they are 12+14.

1 year old. Bought it from a guy in Germany who tried to use on a gusty lake.

It is an ultra flat bow so 17m is really massive. Get you going in very light wind.
Love you long time. Great relaunch, and no problem in Sweden’s smooth sea breezes.

I can sell you mine as I don’t ever manage to drive to where the waves are.

Very beginner friendly – you don’t need to gybe it – just ride it backwards.

It is a bit of a wave-skim hybrid so works well in light winds too.

If you have good wind and not too big a kite you should be able to get up wind on just about anything.

But if you _really_ need a board which goes upwind better you should consider the spleene session. I’m not trying to sell you anything and I am not sponsored. I weigh 87kg and have found that the spleene session 141×42 (2006 model) to be a truly great allround board for the heavier rider. It is a fairly flat, fairly square/ugly board (google images) and in my experience it definitely goes up wind better than the standard style boards of around 41-42 wide. I tested my spleen session’06 (141×42) against a Nobile 555 135(?)x41 quite a bit this summer. The Noble is a really nice board and I’d be happy to recommend it as an allround board. But when things get a bit gusty or light the spleene was simply better (and my buddy with the Nobile is now looking for one).
