I mitt tycke!

Slingshot Link turns heads in Cape Hatteras
Slingshot has just released their new 2007 Hybrid Kite called THE LINK. Available in 4,5,7,9,10.5,12, and 15m sizes the LINK can be flown either 4 line with a simple bridal or 5 line directly to the kite. This makes the Slingshot LINK the only true hybrid on the market today !Trip Forman and Matt Nuzzo were lucky enough to get their hands on the first 9m and 12m Slingshsot Links that arrived at REAL this week. Here is what they had to say about the impressive performance of the new Slingshot Link :
Slingshot LINK Sizes Tested : 9m and 12m
POWERSTROKE Control Bar 17” and 20”We just got off the water after two full days on these kites and I have to say I am very stoked with their performance ! When Slingshot said to pump up the LINK to 10psi, I was like HOLY SH$%^&t !!!! Are you kidding me ? So I did and it wasn’t much more difficult than 6 or 7psi and resulted in a VERY RIGID wing. The bridal was very simple and easy to understand. One Pump RULES ! I have been riding some kites without one pump for a while and every time I come back to it, it blows me away how much easier and faster it makes rigging. Slingshot’s Powerstroke Control Bar is simple and clean. They have eliminated the triangle pulley system found on many of the 2006 bars. The adjustable stopper on the Powerstroke Bar made for easy adjustments on the fly. Just a simple, clean, Slingshot Classic ! This bar will again be THE BAR to have for all bow kites in 2007.
Slingshot Power Chart
Link Sizing = Traditional Sizing
4m = 5m
5m = 7m
9m = 11m
10.5 = 13m
12m = 15m
15m = 17mOn the water, the LINK has significantly more power than what the sizing printed on the wingtip would indicate. At the same time, the power is smooth, no back breaking here ! The kite is fast, and easily slips through the window, making it easy to ride very fast with. Since we had Northeast winds, my first session was on the Link 9m at the First Jetty (Lighthouse). The wind was side onshore with chest high waves, sometimes a little bigger on the sets. The 9m has plenty of power and turning speed to get off the beach and negotiate through the waves, a slow kite here would mean getting wrecked by the cleanup waves. Once outside the current and wind shadow on the inside, the wind normally picks up an additional 5-10mph. I didn’t even notice this on the Link. It absorbed it all and kept flying and riding even faster. The depower seemed to be condensed into a shorter throw on the bar which made riding and maintaining a proper stance easier. This extended windrange also allowed extremely powered up riding which turned into super boosting when you pulled the trigger. The wide canopy provided plenty of hangtime and was predictable for smooth landings. On the wave, the turns were smooth and pivoty, making it easy to be where you wanted on the face. Hooked and unhooked, this is a nice kite to ride waves with, very stable, predictable and if overpowered, just throw the bar away and the power is gone. I was stoked with how easy it was to dial in on a wave.
For my second session, we found a nice left hand sand point break on the Southside with side offshore winds. The wind was lighter down there, probably only 10-15mph, so I rigged the Link 12m and took out my Jimmy Lewis Rocket 6’4. The waves were wrapping around the entire island and then lining up in smooth, clean sets reeling over this point. It was a killer setup, but the wind was light, so using normal gear would have meant walking up the beach after every ride. The Link 12m had TONS of power and with the 20” bar, turned really well. No problem easily staying upwind, even after long rides down the line on the clean peeling waves. I have to say that about both the Link 9m and 12m, super easy to stay upwind even when underpowered. The 12m rode really well on the wave be it turning, downlooping, pinwheeling or riding unhooked, it did it all and was VERY smooth and predictable. Being one of the bigger guys down here, I was stoked to be on the water, easily staying upwind and enjoying some classic down the line wave kiting in winds most riders would have not been able to even ride in. If the 12m has this much power, the Link 15m is going to be unbelievable in lightwind !!
Overall, I am VERY Impressed with the new 2007 Slingshot Link. These kites fit right into what I am looking for in a kite: Wide windrange, smooth power, good turning, easy upwind, durable construction, and ease of use. The fact that you can convert the kite from bow to 5-line I think is a major plus for a couple of reasons. For many, the lust for the bow is strong, but they are not sure they will like them. With the Slingshot Link, you can ride it both ways and experience the best of 2007 bow or 5-line performance. Secondly, many riders travel to places that are extremely gusty, like the Gorge or a side offshore wave kiting locations like San Carlos in Mexico. In these situations, C-Kite riders could enjoy the Slingshot Link’s performance in 5-line mode at their home beaches, then convert to Bow Kite mode for their gusty travel spots. This would save them a ton of cash and gain them a good deal or performance in spots where bow kites are almost a requirement to tame the wild gusts.” – Trip Forman Co-Founder REAL Kiteboarding

//RogerPrecis håller med!
